Kuo predicts expanded mmWave support for iPhone 13, leaked screen protector appears with smaller notch

The iPhone 13 rumor mill is starting to get more and more specific with each passing week and we now have more details regarding 5G connectivity. Ming-Chi Kuo expects Apple to sell mmWave supporting iPhones in more regions including Canada, Japan, Australia, and major European markets. With last year’s iPhone 12 series, Apple only sold mmWave iPhones in the US which accounts for 30-35% of all iPhone 12 shipments while this year the number is expected to increase to 50-65% in total.

The big visual change seen on mmWave handsets is the antenna cutout below the power button. You can see the difference between the mmWave and the sub-6GHz models here:

In addition to the expanded mmWave availability, Kuo has thus far predicted improved camera performance with tilt-shift, 120Hz refresh rates on the Pro variants and smaller notches on all models.

Speaking of smaller notches, a new leak going around social media gives us our first look at the redesigned notch thanks to an alleged iPhone 13 screen protector. We can see the notch is visibly smaller than the outgoing models when put side by side.

The new smaller size has required a reposition of the speaker which is now located above the front-facing camera and accompanying sensors. This redesign will mark the first notch enhacement since Apple announced the iPhone X back in 2017.
