“It looks like you haven’t set up any HomeKit accessories.” How To Fix

When it comes to the world of smart home devices and accessories, there are plenty of great options out there. But if you’re in the Apple ecosystem, you’ll need to make sure that those are compatible with Apple HomeKit. This is a different standard that relies on either the HomePod or the Apple TV as your “hub”, allowing all of your devices to easily and seamlessly be controlled from your iPhone, Apple Watch, or even the Mac.

“It looks like you haven’t set up any HomeKit accessories.”

Over the past few months, Apple has been working on upgrading the backend infrastructure of HomeKit. One reason for this is to ensure that the devices and accessories attached to HomeKit are faster to respond and more reliable on the whole. But Apple is also working to improve the infrastructure as the new Matter standard begins rolling out along with new accessories.

With Matter, this is a standard that many of the best smart home accessory makers should be adopting. In theory, once Matter is available and devices are updated, you’ll be able to use smart home accessories, regardless of whether they are specific to Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple HomeKit. However, as we pointed out, this is part of why Apple has been working to implement the new architecture.

When Apple released the iOS 16.2 beta, this included the new architecture within the Apple Home app. There aren’t any changes to the way that the Home app looks or works, at least on its face. All of the changes come in the form of the architecture which was said to “take advantage of improved performance and reliability of the accessories in your home.” Shortly after the beta began rolling out, it was discovered that there were quite a few issues with the upgrade. Some found that they weren’t able to invite another user to a Home, while others found that they couldn’t even view Home devices after the upgrade.

It seems that Apple wasn’t able to remove all of the cobwebs from the iOS 16.2 update, as there are still some issues when trying to interact with the Home app. One example is receiving a notification that says “It looks like you haven’t set up any HomeKit accessories.”

How To Fix This HomeKit Problem

It appears as though this problem is affecting those with a HomePod, despite Siri acquiescing to requests made using Siri on an iPhone or Apple Watch. Thankfully, one Reddit user managed to find a workaround for the problem, and all you need to do is rename the device via the Home app on your iPhone or iPad. Here are the steps you’ll need to take in order to do so:

  1. Open the Home app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu button in the top right corner of the Home app.
  3. From the drop-down menu, tap Home Settings.
  4. Locate and select your HomePod from the list of devices.
  5. Tap the text field that has gray text within it.
  6. Enter the new name of your device.
  7. Tap the Done button.
  8. Exit the Home app.

We aren’t exactly sure why simply renaming a device will remove the error message from appearing. And Apple has not provided any insight as to what caused the problem to occur in the first place. Hopefully, Apple is able to work out all of the kinks before all of the cool new HomeKit and Matter-compatible accessories from CES 2023 start making their way into stores and are available for purchase.
