Is the Galaxy S22 Ultra getting a RAM downgrade? Benchmark suggests so

The Galaxy S22+ is the only version of Samsung’s next premier flagship line for which benchmarks have appeared online since the Galaxy S22 series leaks and rumors started making the rounds a few months ago, but that’s changing today. A benchmark entry for the Exynos 2200 variant of the Galaxy S22 Ultra has popped up over at Geekbench, and it reveals something surprising.

Let’s get the obvious out of the way first, though: The single-core and multi-core scores of the tested device are nothing to write home about. Well, the multi-core performance is on par with what we saw on the Galaxy S22+ benchmarks, but the single-core performance is lower, though this can just be chalked up to the fact that the final retail units aren’t ready yet.

But final or not, what’s strange is that the benchmark shows this particular Galaxy S22 Ultra to have just 8GB of RAM. The Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S21 Ultra both had 12GB RAM as minimum while giving you the option to choose from different storage tiers, and the same is true for even all three Galaxy Z Folds.

8GB of RAM is more than enough, but is it good enough for an Ultra flagship?

Is Samsung thinking of changing that with the S22 Ultra? Only time will tell. 8GB of RAM is, of course, good enough for anything you can do on a smartphone these days, plus there’s also that virtual RAM thing Samsung is doing these days. That said, not having 12GB of RAM as standard on the top Galaxy S22 model could slightly tarnish the Ultra branding, though on the flip side, it could mean a lower price tag for the base Galaxy S22 Ultra variant.

Again, we’ll need to wait and see what’s what, and we’ll be sure to let you know once more Galaxy S22 Ultra info surfaces. Not that there’s much left to learn at this point, thanks to all the leaks that have ruined the Galaxy S22 launch months before it’s set to go official (which is early February, if you haven’t been keeping track).
