Huawei Watch GT2 Pro adds ECG to the mix
The Huawei Watch GT2 Pro – which is still officially yet to actually launch in the US because of the Chinese trade issues – is about to get a sequel… sort of.
The Huawei Watch GT2 Pro ECG is, according to a report over on ithome.com, “Huawei’s first smart wearable product that has obtained a Class II medical device registration certificate from the National Medical Products Administration, with home-level ECG acquisition accuracy” (translated from Chinese).
ECG (also known as EKG) monitoring is big business in the smartwatch world right now. ECG was originally thrown into the wearable spotlight when it went live on the 4th-gen Apple Watch a couple of years back.
It’s now found on many other smartwatches including the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 and the new Fitbit Sense.
Unlike the regular heart rate monitor, which can be found on even the cheapest smartwatches that uses flashing LEDs to penetrate the skin and detect blood flow and BPM, ECG monitoring is a far more accurate process that is designed to measure how well your heart is working.
An ECG sensor records tiny electrical signals generated by the beating of your heart under your skin, to understand more about how your heart is functioning – and determine if there are any abnormalities.
The original Huawei Watch GT2 Pro launched back in September at IFA 2020. This new ECG model adds ¥500 to the price-tag for its Chinese launch; up from ¥2188 to ¥2688.
That’s an increase of around £50. If the ECG model does hit our shores then, based on the £299 price tag of the non-ECG version, we can expect an outlay of around £350.
There is no word on a global launch of the Huawei Watch GT2 Pro ECG as of yet though but we will, of course, keep you posted.
