Huawei Watch GT Cyber launched – the first smartwatch with detachable bezel shells

Huawei has unveiled an innovative new smartwatch – the Watch GT Cyber – with a dial that detaches from the bezel and strap.

As part of the company’s latest event in China, the company added the device to the growing list of Watch GT models, with it already available in China from 1,288 CNY (roughly $180 / £160).

Unlike its siblings, the Huawei Watch GT 3 and Huawei Watch GT Runner, and really any smartwatch we’ve seen, the device features a bezel shell that primarily uses magnets to keep the detachable watch dial in place.

When users want to switch the bezel and watch band out for a different style, they can. And three shell types are available – each available in two colors – that Huawei is branding as ‘Urban’, ‘Sports’ and ‘Fashion’.

All, of course, are compatible with the same 1.32-inch circular watch dial, which boasts an AMOLED display with a 466 x 466 resolution and 352 PPI, though it’s not clear how much the shells will cost individually.

The Urban is the heaviest of the 47mm bezel and band combinations, though, clocking in at 77g, while the other two styles – Sport and Fashion – are a more reasonable 59g and 58g, respectively.

It’s all new on the outside, then, but, as you might expect, the company’s HarmonyOS is still running a show here, offering wearers the typical array of sports modes, sleep monitoring functions, GPS location tracking and NFC support for contactless payments.

On the health side, the Watch GT Cyber also features blood oxygen data via the SpO2 sensor, as well as the standard heart rate readings throughout the day and night.

In terms of battery life, Huawei is claiming four days of ‘heavy use’ and a week of more standard wear, which, if true, is a fairly promising projection.

As ever with the company’s wares, we’ll likely have to wait a while for the UK and Europe launch – and that’s if Huawei has any plans to bring it to other markets at all. The situation in the US, as it has been for many years, is obviously still murky, too.

We’ll keep you updated on any Huawei Watch GT Cyber release date news as and when we get it, as well as our full impressions if/when the device does become available.
