Huawei P40 Pro and Premium set to retain front 3D sensor to secure  payments

Even though the chunky notch of the Mate 30 Pro is going away in favor of a dual punch hole, the Huawei P40 Pro and P40 Premium will reportedly retain the front facing 3D ToF sensor for secure face unlock.

This will be used to authorize payments as it’s more secure than plain camera-based face unlock. The extra hardware made the dual punch hole slightly wider than it is on the Huawei P40 as you can see in these renders shared by @evleaks:

The P40 Pro and P40 Premium will pack a 32MP selfie camera plus the ToF sensor in the punch hole. The gesture motion sensor along with other hardware (ambient light and proximity sensors) will either go under the screen or be pushed on the top bezel.

That presents a problem, however, as the top bezel is rounded. This is what makes it appear so thin in the render above, check out the image below for a closeup, courtesy of leakster Teme.

Again, the Pro and Premium model will have the same hardware on the front. What will set them apart is the cameras on the back – the Huawei P40 Premium will have a second telephoto cam for a total of five cameras. The Pro model will have just the one zoom module (four cams total) while the Huawei P40 will have “only” three cameras. Some cameras samples from the Premium leaked earlier today if you want to have a look.
