Huawei launches Mate X in China, shipments begin on November 15
Huawei is having an eventful day – the company launched the 5G-enabled Mate 30 lineup, celebrated 200 million sales globally, and now has finally started the sales of its first foldable phone – the Mate X. The smartphone is already listed at Vmall, Huawei’s official online store, for the CNY16,999 (that’s about $2,400 or €2,150).
The Huawei Mate X arrives with Kirin 980 chipset, as initially announced – rumors that the company was going to upgrade it to the Kirin 990 turned out false. At least it will ship with an integrated Balong 5000 modem for 5G speeds. Other specs include Leica-branded quad-camera setup, 4,500 mAh battery and mind-boggling 55W SuperCharge.
The key feature – the foldable screen – is an OLED with 8” diagonal when unfolded. Folded, it becomes a dual-screen phone – the front becomes a 6.6” panel with a resolution of 2480 x 1148 pixels in a 19.5:9 aspect, while the back is a 6.38” unit with a weird aspect ratio of 25:9 because it has the camera setup on the left.
The phone ships without Google services as is the norm in China. We are still waiting to see whether Huawei will pull a Mate 30 and will introduce the Mate X without GMS around the world as well.
