How to get Europa armor and weapons in Destiny 2: Beyond Light

Europa is the place to be in the new Destiny 2 expansion Beyond Light, and it’s filled with new enemies, interesting locations, and (you guessed it) brand new loot to obtain. Specifically, there’s a brand new Europa-themed armor set for each class, as well as eight new Legendary weapons. Here’s a guide on how to obtain all of the new gear.

Wield the Darkness

Destiny 2: Beyond Light

Welcome to Europa, Guardian…

In Beyond Light, players will encounter a dark Fallen faction, travel to new locations, and go beyond the Light to wield the power of the Darkness.

The Europa armor set is quite easy to earn, although it’s a little time-consuming. To get it, you’ll first need to finish the Beyond Light campaign. Once you do this, four side quests will appear at the bottom of Variks the Loyal’s inventory (he acts as the planetary vendor for Europa). These quests will be titled after the armor piece that you can earn by completing them. At the start, quests for the chest-piece, arms, legs, and class item will all be available. The quest for the helm will only become available after you complete your first Empire Hunt, which are missions you can unlock once you finish the post-campaign missions that involve you stopping one of Eramis’ officers, Kridis.

These quests are simple to complete, as all you need to do is travel to various areas on Europa and unlock the Stasis-sealed chests within them (see above), which requires having your Stasis subclass equipped. They’re impossible to miss since they’re surrounded by a big blue shield and are on the beaten path; you’ll easily be able to spot them by just running through the areas as normal. Here are all the locations that you’ll need to run through:

  • Nexus, Well of Infinitude (Helm)
  • Riis-Reborn Approach, Technocrat’s Iron (Chestpiece)
  • Bray Exoscience, Eternity (Arms)
  • Bray Exoscience (Legs)
  • Perdition (Class item)

Once you’ve opened all the chests in these areas, return to Variks, and he’ll give you the corresponding armor piece for each of the quests that you completed.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light Europa weapons

Like the armor set, the new Europa weapons aren’t too tough to get your hands on. In fact, you’ll get the Hailing Confusion pulse rifle, Bonechiller shotgun, and Subzero Salvo rocket launcher just by playing through the campaign, as Variks gives you each of these weapons at various intervals. However, the Thermal Erosion machine gun, Coriolis Force fusion rifle, and Biting Winds bow must be earned by completing each of the Empire Hunt missions from Variks. Killing Phylaks in “The Warrior” Empire Hunt nets you the machine gun, killing Praksis in “The Technocrat” Empire Hunt gets you the fusion rifle and killing Kridis in the “The Dark Priestess” Empire Hunt gives you the bow.

Currently, the Arctic Haze auto rifle and High Albedo sidearm are unobtainable, but we’ll update this article once we discover how to get them.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light how to farm Europa gear drops

Now that you’ve earned your Europa loot, you can farm for in a few different ways to try and get the stat rolls and/or perks that you want. The most straightforward gear pieces to farm are the machine gun, fusion rifle, and bow, as these can be earned repeatedly by completing the corresponding Empire Hunts. These missions are infinitely repeatable.
The High Value Target enemies that randomly spawn in Europa’s different regions are also guaranteed to drop one of the pieces of Europa gear — armor or weapons — that you’ve unlocked previously. These are almost always Enforcer Brig walkers (see above) with a Power Level of 1,250, so be careful. You may want to level up for a while before attempting to take them down (learn how to power level effectively here). Having teammates with you makes killing these enemies much easier. On rare occasions, large Fallen enemies may also spawn as High Value Targets in the Eventide Ruins area. High Value Targets spawn every few minutes or so, so farming them is overall the best way to get lots of Europa gear.

A rather unique source of guaranteed Europa gear is the special Vex-themed puzzle in the Cadmus Ridge area, which requires you to kill an enemy called the Technorunner, steal his access codes, and drink inert Vex milk (gross) to access it. Make sure to check out our full guide to that puzzle here.

Finally, you can get pieces of Europa gear from random world drops while you’re on Europa, although these drops are incredibly rare. I managed to get the Subzero Salvo rocket launcher for completing a Public Event so far, but that’s it. Therefore, this farm isn’t consistent or reliable.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One consoles, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Windows 10 PCs. It costs $40 but is also available through Xbox Game Pass. If you’ve never tried out Destiny 2, I recommend doing so, as it’s easily one of the best Xbox One shooters.
