Honor Magic Vs teardown reveals the four-component hinge

Honor announced the Magic Vs in November 2022, and the foldable will make its international debut on February 27 at MWC in Barcelona. The company provided a pre-production unit to the Jerry Rig Everything channel on YouTube, where Zack tears down the foldable and tells us all about its innovative hinge.

This is the first time Honor is shedding light on the meaning of its “4-component design” which lowers the number of components from 92 to just 4.

Zack reveals the magnesium elements are cast together and molded into the plastic frame, making the hinge more durable and 62% lighter than the predecessor Magic V.

Honor used vertical metal slats to keep the foldable screen in one plane without any major creases, offering support on the vertical axis as well, and the thinness of the elements keeps the whole component reasonably lightweight.

We can also see the screen can run fine outside the assembly, provided it is not punctured at its weak point as Zack did.

The video also revealed that despite Magic Vs not having an official IP rating, there is some dust and water protection around the speaker, the SIM tray, and the connecting pins for the hinge to the body of the phone.

The battery is split into two cells – one is 2,930mAh, and the other is 2,070mAh, making up the 5,000mAh total capacity.
