Honor Magic V foldable smartphone shown in official hands-on promo image

We’re now mere days away from the official unveiling on January 10 of Honor’s first foldable smartphone, the Magic V. This will be similar in concept to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold3, Xiaomi’s Mi Mix Fold, and Oppo’s Find N, and today the Chinese edition of Esquire magazine has decided to show us just what the Honor Magic V looks like, by posting this picture on Weibo:

That’s a faux (sorry, vegan) leather back, which is intriguing to see in a foldable for sure. The orangey color reminds us of the Oppo Find X2 Pro, while the frame is clearly made out of metal and there are three cameras on the rear. There’s an upward-facing speaker (presumably paired with a downward-facing one for stereo effect), and the power and volume buttons are on the same (right) side. That’s just about all we can say about the device from this picture.

This ‘leather’ version definitely won’t be the only color option for you, though, as previous teasers showed the Honor Magic V in a silver metallic trim. The phone is expected to be the first foldable powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

According to past rumors, it will run Android 12 out of the box and have 66W fast charging, a 50 MP main rear camera, and high refresh rate screens – though not matched, as the external one will be 120 Hz while the internal one will settle for ‘just’ 90 Hz. That is, of course, if such allegations will pan out.

The launch is happening in China, which means the Magic V will probably stay confined to that one market, at least initially. We’re hoping (and keeping our fingers crossed) for a global launch in the future.
