What is the Halo TV series?

The Halo TV series follows Spartan supersoldier Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber) and his comrades (Kate Kennedy, Natasha Culzac, Bentley Kalu) as they, along with the rest of the United Nations Space Command (UNSC), attempt to stop an alliance of aliens known as the Covenant from wiping out humanity. Some other important characters include Miranda Keyes (Olive Gray) and Spartan Soren-066 (Bokeem Woodbine), and the show will also feature the perspective of a character named Makee (Charlie Murphy), a human woman that was raised by the Covenant and works with them.
Notably, the Halo TV series takes place in what 343 Industries calls a “Silver Timeline” — a separate version of the Halo universe that is very similar, but not identical to, the canon of the Halo games and novels. This Silver Timeline has allowed the series’ showrunners to craft its story without having to worry about adhering to the events of previous Halo media, and it also helps ensure that the TV series is more approachable for newcomers to the Halo series.
