Here’s when Qualcomm could announce its next flagship Snapdragon chipset

Yesterday, it was revealed that Samsung will equip the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset. A new report now claims that Qualcomm is planning to launch its upcoming flagship chipset in May 2022.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ could be a slightly overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which is powering most of the 2022 flagships, including the Galaxy S22 series and the Galaxy Tab S8 series. According to tipster Yogesh Brar, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will be produced by TSMC on its 4nm process node.

Qualcomm reportedly offered TSMC the contract to manufacture its upcoming chipset due to Samsung Foundry’s horrible yield issues for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. As per reports, Samsung’s 4nm yield is said to be just 35%, which is quite low compared to TSMC.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ is good news for Samsung’s 2022 foldables

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset has model number SM8475, and it will be used in Samsung’s next-generation foldable phones as well as other high-end smartphones from Lenovo, Motorola, OnePlus, and Xiaomi. The chipset’s performance could leave behind the Exynos 2200 even further, thanks to its higher power efficiency.

Rumors suggest that there may be three Samsung foldable phones this year. Either one or all three could pack in this new 8 Gen 1+ chipset, but it’s something only time will confirm.
