Here’s everything announced during The Game Awards 2021

The Game Awards 2021 is the latest iteration of a yearly occurence, one that grows in scale and grandiosity every time. While primarily a celebration of the best PC games and best Xbox games of the year, the event has evolved to encompass game announcements from all kinds of publishers and studios. This year’s show was massive, and featured a ton of reveals and updates that represent the future of video games moving into the new year.

Games and announcements shown off during The Game Awards 2021 are targeting practically every modern gaming platform, including Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Switch, PC, Xbox Game Pass, and more. Some of these games may even make an appearance to accept an award at a future The Game Awards event.

Of course, the show mostly focused on the winners of The Game Awards 2021, which include some of the most influential and exiting titles of the year. In case you missed it, the Windows Central Game Awards 2021 was recently released to showcase our top games of 2021 in multiple categories, with Resident Evil Village winning our Game of the Year award.

What are the major announcements from The Game Awards 2021?

There were a ton of different announcements during The Game Awards 2021, but a few stood out above the rest. The biggest reveals of the event include brand-new game projects, updates on highly-anticipated upcoming titles, and a few other announcements that may have caught everyone by surprise. Here are the major announcements from The Game Awards 2021.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

Out of all the upcoming Xbox games, one of the most highly anticipated and most ambitious titles is Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. A gorgeous and atmospheric adventure game from Ninja Theory, Hellblade II is one of the most exciting first-party Xbox titles currently in the works. During The Game Awards 2021, we got an extended gameplay trailer for the title.

The trailer was absolutely gorgeous, showcasing Senua and a group of followers going head-to-head with a giant of epic proportions, wielding spears and fire. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II still doesn’t have a release window, but when it arrives it’s coming to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, and Xbox Game Pass.

Star Wars Eclipse

The Star Wars universe with filled with untold stories perfect for the video game medium, and the latest to be announced is Star Wars Eclipse, which got a cinematic trailer during The Game Awards 2021. The game, developed by Quantic Dream, is a branching action-adventure title which will let players control multiple characters across the Star Wars universe.

The game is set during the High Republic era of Star Wars. At the moment, Star Wars Eclipse doesn’t have any release window or even targeted platforms.

Alan Wake 2

After years of waiting from eager fans, The Game Awards finally delivered the long-awaited sequel to Alan Wake, delivered straight from Remedy. Alan Wake 2 was announced as a survival horror title set in the legendary universe, and once again focuses on the titular writer.

Alan Wake 2 is arriving sometime in 2023 as a current-gen only title for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC through the Epic Games Store.

Wonder Woman

The second DC universe game of the night, studio Monolith surprised viewers during The Game Awards 2021 with the announcement of Wonder Woman, a mysterious new video game. As of right now, there is no information as to when the Wonder Woman game is releasing, what platforms it’s heading to, or even what kind of game it is.

Sonic Frontiers

Rumors ran rampant ahead of The Game Awards 2021 that a new Sonic game was in the works, but viewers were teased by a trailer for the next Sonic movie instead. Later during the show, however, fans got what they wanted: Sonic Frontiers was announced. Heading to Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and Switch at the end of 2022, Sonic Frontiers is an open-world Sonic title that looks suitably intense and visually stunning.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series

The Expanse was announced during The Game Awards 2021 as a momentous return of Telltale Games. The brand-new narrative adventure is set in a brutal sci-fi world rife with politics and conflicts, and is the perfect foundation for Telltale Games to be revived upon. The Expanse: A Telltale Series doesn’t have a release window yet.

Star Trek: Resurgence

Star Trek: Resurgence is the debut title from Dramatic Labs, a brand-new studio formed primarily of ex-Telltale Games veterans. This third-person narrative adventure draws from Telltale’s roots to deliver a story-driven adventure through the Star Trek universe, with a focus on the players’ choices.

Players will take control of two characters and enter a universe on the verge of war between two alien races. New and returning Star Trek characters will make appearances, and what you do or how you act will affect how the story will progress. Star Trek: Resurgence is planned for release in Spring 2022 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

Among Us VR

Among Us is days away from releasing on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as Xbox Game Pass, but The Game Awards 2021 featured an announcement that stole the thunder from that release. Among Us is coming to VR, letting players gain an all-new perspective on what it means to be a Crewmate or Impostor in the Among Us universe.

Co-developed by Schell Games, Innersloth, and Robot Teddy, Among Us VR is heading to Meta Quest 2, PSVR, and various PC VR platforms. The Among Us formula looks like it may translate beautifully to VR, giving Among Us a chance to become one of the best Quest games you can play. There’s currently no release window for Among Us VR.

Arc Raiders

The Game Awards 2021 brought us announcements of plenty of never-before-seen titles, including the current-gen only game Arc Raiders, from Embark. This enigmatic action game got a dramatic cinematic trailer during the event, revealing that Arc Raiders is arriving on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC sometime in 2022.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a highly anticipated game set in the iconic DC universe, and it also made an appearance during The Game Awards 2021. While we’ve already seen exciting trailers for the title, The Game Awards gave us a brand-new gameplay trailer for the upcoming Suicide Squad game.

The darkly humorous and action-packed Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League arrives for current-gen gaming platforms sometime in 2022.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a fantasy-themed spin-off of the legendary Borderlands franchise, and it made its name known during The Game Awards 2021 with a new trailer. The comedy-packed adventure, featuring a full-blown character creator and more, is coming to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on March 25, 2022.

CrossfireX

CrossfireX is the long-awaited sequel for one of the biggest FPS games of all time, with both multiplayer and single player campaign portions in development. After months of silence from Remedy and Smilegate Entertainment, The Game Awards brought us a new trailer and release date for CrossfireX’s campaign, which highlights intense combat across a variety of environments. CrossfireX comes to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on Feb. 10, 2022.

Elden Ring

Elden Ring is one of the most wildly anticipated games in the world, and actually won that precise award during The Game Awards 2021. Immediately after, we got an all-new cinematic trailer of the intricate and ominous world of Elden Ring. Elden Ring, the latest Souls-like from FromSoftware, arrives on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on Feb. 25, 2022.

Halo TV

As players everywhere jump into the Halo Infinite campaign, The Game Awards 2021 showcased the first trailer for the Halo live action TV series streaming through Paramount+. The trailer gives us our first look at the show, and reaffirms the planned release window of 2022.

Google Play Games on Windows

One of the most shocking announcements during The Game Awards 2021 was the reveal that Google Play Games is coming to Windows PCs. This venture from Google will have the entire Google Play Games ecosystems, comprised of hundreds of the best Android games, be accessible and playable on Windows PCs through a desktop application.

There isn’t a ton of information or a specific release window for Google Play Games’ release on Windows, but Google revealed that it’s arriving at some point in 2022. When it happens, Google Play Games will join the growing number of Android apps that are available on Windows 11, alongside the Amazon Appstore.

Xbox Game Pass for PC

Xbox Game Pass for PC showed off a new advertisement for the service during The Game Awards 2021, but the trailer also revealed a handful of titles heading to Xbox Game Pass for PC on day one in the future, some of which are still unannounced, including:

• An unannounced game from Hugecalf Studios
