Halo Infinite had the biggest launch in Halo history

Halo Infinite has been played by over 20 million players, according to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, speaking during the company’s FY22 Q2 earnings call. The paid campaign first released on Dec. 8, 2021, while the free-to-play multiplayer first launched back on Nov. 15, 2021. Per Nadella, this is the biggest launch for a Halo gmae in the history of the franchise.

Halo Infinite’s paid campaign, which is also available in Xbox Game Pass, reached the #2 spot on the December 2021 NPD charts. Microsoft recently noted that Xbox Game Pass has reached over 25 million subscribers. Nadella also shared in the earnings call that Forza Horizon 5 has been played by over 18 million players.

Microsoft reported overall growth for gaming in its FY22 Q2 financial results, with gaming revenue up 8% year-over-year thanks to first-party titles and Xbox Game Pass.

Microsoft is continuing to invest in its gaming division, building the Xbox first-party lineup with new IP and studios. Microsoft is acquiring Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion, the company’s biggest acquisition ever. This comes after Microsoft previously acquired Bethesda Softworks’ parent company, ZeniMax Media, for $7.5 billion.
