Google teases Pixel 6 on Instagram as “Certified Pixel Lover”

Google has posted a cheeky teaser for its upcoming Pixel 6 smartphones on its @madebygoogle handle. The image shows the Pixel 6 in a grid of 4 x 3, all showing different color backgrounds to showcase Android 12’s Material You, which pulls colors out of your wallpaper and applies them throughout the UI. This teaser is a play on Drake’s new album cover art for “Certified Lover Boy”, which shows twelve pregnant emojis arranged in the same fashion.

The teaser is captioned “Certified Pixel Lover” and tagged with #TeamPixel and #Pixel6. If its worth noting, there’s a disclaimer at the bottom that reads: “This device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the [FCC] or other regulators. This device may not be sold or otherwise distributed until required legal authorizations have been obtained.” This means it may be a while before the Pixel 6 duo is announced.

The Google Pixel 6 will reportedly be available for purchase starting on October 28, with a Pixel 6 announcement taking place sometime before then. It’s believed that Android 12 might be arriving on September if Oppo’s Breeno assistant is to be believed, but it’s not certain when the actual announcement event for the Pixel 6 duo will take place.

The Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will be powered by the Tensor chipset, a custom chip made by Samsung for the Google Pixel, which is likely an unreleased Exynos chipset. The smaller of the two Pixels will have a 6.4″ FullHD+ screen with 90Hz refresh rate while the larger Pro will have a 6.7′ QHD+ curved display with 120Hz refresh rate. Both devices will have a single punch-hole selfie camera at the top.

Camera hardware will be getting a much-needed update. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will use a 50MP Samsung GN1 sensor for the main camera, and a 12MP ultrawide camera. The bigger Pixel 6 Pro will have a new 48MP telephoto camera. Video quality is expected to improve as per reports, and performs as well as or better than the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s.
