Google Pixel 7 unboxing

The Google Pixel 7 has finally arrived at the office and we’ve already begun work on our full review. But first, an unboxing. For the €649/$599 price you get the phone in 64GB trim, a USB-C cable, and a USB-A to USB-C dongle.

The Pixel 7 isn’t as clear-cut a successor to the Pixel 6 as the 7 Pro is to the 7. For starters, the phone comes with smaller screen – 6.3-inch vs 6.4-inch – and battery – 4,355mAh vs 4,614mAh. That means you get a smaller phone, though – 10g lighter, nearly 3mm shorter, 1.6mm narrower, and slightly thinner. That may be a big incentive for people after a small phone.

But on the other hand, the €459/$449 Google Pixel 6a is properly smaller than last year’s Pixel 6 and this year’s 7.

The Pixel 7 has a wider selfie camera, and a better main camera than the Pixel 6a, and is powered by the faster Tensor G2 chip. But aside from saving money by going with the Pixel 6a, you’d be getting better battery life – the smaller phone has a bigger battery!

Then there’s last year’s Pixel 6, which can still be the better bargain if you can find it in stores. We’ll revisit this argument up in the closing of our full review, stay tuned for that!
