Google Keep will soon get text formatting options

Google Keep is a simple note-taking app that is good enough for most Android users. It is available on ChromeOS, iOS, and the web as well. However, it lacks some basic features available on other note-taking apps such as Samsung Notes and Microsoft OneNote.

Despite launching nine years ago, the app still lacks text formatting features. However, Google seems to be working on bringing those missing features. The folks over at 9To5Google were able to find signs related to text formatting in Google Keep’s latest version (5.22.222.01). The app could soon get bold, italic, underline, and three font size options as strings related to those features were found in the app’s APK file.

  • <string name=”toggle_bold”>Bold</string>
  • <string name=”toggle_italic”>Italic</string>
  • <string name=”toggle_underline”>Underline</string>
  • <string name=”font_size_small”>Small</string>
  • <string name=”font_size_medium”>Medium</string>
  • <string name=”font_size_large”>Large</string>

It looks like users would be able to format text as per their preference and clear that formatting when needed. Right now, these features are not live and might be released after a server-side activation from Google. The app already offers reminders based on time, location, and the ability to share notes with other Google Keep users.

In comparison, Samsung Notes is highly feature-rich. It offers text formatting, drawing, writing, PDF markup, synchronized audio recording, handwriting to text conversion, folders, pages, the option to add images, and more. However, some people prefer simple note-taking apps.
