Google Home app gets Climate tab to shows ACs, heaters, and more

The redesigned Google Home app for Android, which is currently in the Public Preview stage, opens up in the Favourites tab. It has four sections located at the top edge of the screen: Cameras, Lighting, Wi-Fi, and Climate. Clicking on any of those tiles will bring up a list of all the devices related to that category. Up until now, the Climate section used to display only thermostats, such as Google’s Nest Thermostat. However, Google has now updated the Climate page to show more types of climate-related devices.

According to 9To5Google, the Climate section now shows air conditioners, fans, heaters, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, and temperature sensors, in addition to thermostats. What’s even more impressive is this page now also shows all the smart plugs that are assigned to the climate category. For example, if you have a smart plug that you are using to turn your non-connected air conditioner on and off remotely, and you have told Google Home that it controls your air conditioner, the smart plug will show up in the Climate section.

The addition of new types of climate-related devices into the Climate section enables users to monitor and control them from a single page, which is much easier than earlier. The company is also reportedly working on allowing users to reorder tiles in the Favourites tab and improving controls for many types of smart home devices.

Google, however, hasn’t announced when will it release the redesigned app to the public. But considering that it has been almost six months since its debut, the new app should soon roll out to all.
