Galaxy Z Fold 4 uses Samsung’s newest Eco² OLED Plus panel with higher efficiency

Samsung’s latest flagship foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, was recently seen defeating the Galaxy S22 Ultra in a battery life test. It wasn’t just because of its more power-efficient Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. Samsung’s new OLED display panel also contributed to its longer battery life.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 uses Samsung Display’s new Eco² OLED Plus display panel. It improves the transmittance efficiency and consumes much less power than its predecessor by incorporating a polarizer within the panel. A demonstration organized by Samsung Display at the K-Display 2022 expo in South Korea shows that the Eco² OLED Plus panel consumes around 25% less power than the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s Eco² OLED panel.

The South Korean firm also showcased its UPC Plus technology. The under-panel camera technique uses a unique sub-pixel arrangement and structure that hides the camera sensor in a better way. It is used in the Galaxy Z Fold 4 for its 4MP under-display selfie camera. Early reviews claim that the selfie camera on the new foldable phone is much less noticeable and offers improved image quality.

Looking at Samsung’s track record, it is possible that the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Galaxy S23+ would use the same display panel. The smartphones are expected to be released sometime early next year. Combined with the more power-efficient display panel and the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, the Galaxy S23 series could offer the best battery life we’ve seen in years.
