Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover display could be more useful than you expect

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip will get a massive upgrade later this year. Some might say it will be the best upgrade in the series’ history. Namely, every bit of evidence indicates that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have a bigger cover display, and now, more details about its size and whereabouts have emerged.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 won’t have a 3.14-inch cover display as previously rumored, but an even larger 3.8-inch panel, according to @DSCCRoss. As we exclusively predicted, the cover screen should cover almost the entire front half of the Z Flip 5.

A 3.8-inch panel is a big upgrade over the 1.9-inch cover display employed by the Galaxy Z Flip 4, and coincidentally, it’s the same size as the inner display of the old Galaxy Folder 2. The latter was a flip phone but in the classical sense. It didn’t have a foldable panel and featured one tall 3.8-inch display.

The next-gen foldable phones will enter production this summer

In addition to the cover display information above, the source also revealed when Samsung Display is to start shipping the panels and when the Korean tech giant will begin assembling the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Panel shipments for the two next-gen foldable devices should commence in May. Then, Samsung should start the production process in June. As to when the devices will hit the shelves, it should be within a similar time frame as last year, so, likely in August.

Another report earlier today suggested that Samsung may be using OLED panels based on M12 materials for the upcoming foldable phones, even though Google’s first-ever foldable device might get upgraded M13-based OLED displays.
