Galaxy Watch 6 gets closer to launch, gains FCC approval
Samsung is expected to unveil its next-generation smartwatches—Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic—in July 2023. Ahead of the launch event, the South Korean firm is trying to get all the necessary approvals and certifications for its upcoming smartwatches. The Galaxy Watch 6 series has now gained FCC certification.
Two sizes of the Galaxy Watch 6—SM-R930 and SM-R940—have received FCC certification in the US. The SM-R930 is the 40mm version of the Galaxy Watch 6, while the SM-R940 is the 44mm version of the smartwatch. According to the certification documents, the Galaxy Watch 6 features dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC. Both smartwatch sizes support wireless charging, and they come with a wireless charger with model number ER-OR900.
Going by previous reports, the Galaxy Watch 6 will lack a physical rotating bezel, while the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic will bring back the iconic rotating bezel that is missing from the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Both smartwatches are expected to feature the Exynos W980 processor, which has a slight bump in CPU frequency. The devices will run Wear OS 4-based One UI 5 Watch out of the box.
We can expect both smartwatches to feature all the activity and health-tracking features, including an accelerometer, barometer, compass, ECG, gyro, heart-rate monitoring, SpO2 tracking, stress tracking, and sleep tracking. They could also feature body composition analysis, similar to the Galaxy Watch 4 series and the Galaxy Watch 5 series.
