Galaxy Tab S9 will pack a bigger battery than its predecessors
Samsung is bringing battery upgrades to its flagship tablet series. The unannounced Galaxy Tab S9 will have a bigger battery than its predecessors, according to an online listing that confirms the unit’s model number and rated capacity.
The recent application found by GalaxyClub in the database of the Chinese agency CQC reveals that the Galaxy Tab S9 Li-ion battery, developed by Samsung SDI, has part number EB-BX716ABY. This designation corresponds to the SM-X71x model number that should be employed by the upcoming Galaxy Tab S9 series, or more specifically, the base Tab S9 variant.
In other words, this battery we’re seeing at CQC does belong to the Galaxy Tab S9. And as far as specifications go, the unit has a rated capacity of 8,160mAh, which confirms that the Galaxy Tab S9 should have a more generous battery than the Tab S8 and Tab S7 that precede the upcoming model.
Comparatively, the Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S8 had batteries with a rated capacity of 7,760mAh, which translated into a “typical” capacity of 8,000mAh. Therefore, if the Galaxy Tab S9 has a rated capacity of 8,160mAh, we can assume that the typical capacity could be somewhere around 8,400–8,500mAh.
Battery specifications for the Galaxy Tab S9+ or Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra are unknown. Only the base model’s battery appeared at CQC, but more details concerning these other variants could emerge soon.
According to a previous rumor, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra has the same battery capacity as the Tab S8 Ultra, but no concrete evidence supports this claim.
One upgrade we’re being told will make it to the Galaxy Tab S9 series is IP67 dust and water resistance. Samsung may bring this feature to its high-end tablets for the first time. And speaking of which, the company is likely to unveil the Galaxy Tab S9 at the next Unpacked in August-September.
