Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra’s display notch exists for an important reason

The Galaxy Tab S8 series will go official sometime next year. Samsung could release three variants of its upcoming high-end tablet: Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8+, and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is expected to feature a giant 14.6-inch Super AMOLED display with a notch. Unlike the recently-released MacBook Pro, though, the display notch on the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has an important reason to exist.

According to reliable tipster @UniverseIce, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra features a small notch to accommodate two high-end front-facing cameras. Apparently, one of them is an ultrawide-angle camera. Both front-facing cameras on the upcoming flagship tablet will reportedly offer up to 4K 60fps video recording, perfect for ultra-sharp video calls. It would be great if Samsung could also fit in an autofocus mechanism, similar to some of its high-end smartphones.

In comparison, the Galaxy Tab S7 and the Galaxy Tab S7+ feature an 8MP selfie camera with 1080p 30fps video recording. With e-learning and work-from-home becoming the norm, high-quality front-facing cameras could pave the way for smoother and sharper video calls.

The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is expected to feature a 14.6-inch Super AMOLED display with a 3K display, a 120Hz refresh rate, thin bezels, and S Pen compatibility. It could feature the Exynos 2200 processor, 8GB/12GB RAM, and 128GB/512GB internal storage. The device could have come in Wi-Fi-only and 5G variants. The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra will reportedly come powered by an 11,500mAh battery and 45W fast charging.
