Some reports claimed that the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+ will use Exynos chips, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra will exclusively use the Snapdragon processor. Now, a new report from TheElec claims that Samsung will launch both Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy versions of the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+.

The Exynos 2400 versions of those phones will reportedly be launched in Africa, Asia (including South Korea), Europe, and Latin America, while the Snapdragon-equipped versions will be launched in North America (Canada and the US).

The Galaxy 24 Ultra will reportedly use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy processor in all the countries worldwide. The report claims the decision about the distribution of these variants of Galaxy S24 series phones is in the final stages, and a change is unlikely to happen. In the past, Exynos chips have usually not performed as well as their Snapdragon counterparts in terms of processing speed or power efficiency (or both).

Exynos 2400 specifications and features

Samsung Exynos Processor Chip

Samsung announced the Exynos 2400 processor earlier today. The company’s new flagship processor features a 70% faster CPU and 14.7x faster AI processing. It also features the Xclipse 940 GPU, which is based on AMD’s latest RDNA3 architecture. Samsung didn’t offer any numbers for its GPU performance but said it offers substantially improved raytracing performance in games.

The chip is reportedly fabricated on Samsung Foundry’s 4nm LPP+ node and has a 10-core CPU. Previous leaks claim that the Exynos 2400 has one Cortex-X4 CPU core clocked at 3.1GHz, two Cortex-A720 CPU cores clocked at 2.9GHz, three Cortex-A720 CPU cores clocked at 2.6GHz, and four Cortex-A520 CPU cores clocked at 1.8GHz.

The Xclipse 920 GPU appears to be 30% faster than the Xclipse 930 GPU used in the Exynos 2200, bringing its gaming performance closer to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. So, it is expected that the Exynos 2400’s GPU performance will most likely not be as good as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Other features of the chip could include 10Gbps download speeds on a 5G network, dual-frequency GPS, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, USB 3.2 Type-C port, and two-way satellite connectivity for emergency messaging when cellular connectivity is unavailable.
