Galaxy S23 Ultra does what no other Android phone did in the past few years

The Galaxy S23 series has been receiving accolades from both experts and consumers. The Galaxy S23 Ultra has even broken some battery life records in the high-end Android segment and came quite close to beating the iPhone. Now, the device managed to do what no other Android smartphone has done over the past few years: being as fast as the latest iPhone.

Popular YouTube channel PhoneBuff, which does some extremely methodological phone tests, pitted the Galaxy S23 Ultra against the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max to see which device comes out on top as the fastest phone in the world right now. The test involved opening a series of apps and games and using them across two rounds. The first round is designed to see which phone has the most raw performance, while the second round of the test is to check their RAM management.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra won the first round, a rare feat by an Android smartphone. Samsung’s latest and greatest smartphone was two seconds faster than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. In the second round, the iPhone gained some ground but still managed to end the test with a tie. Both smartphones ended the test at the same time, down to a second. This shows how big a jump Samsung took compared to the Galaxy S22 series from last year, which had the problematic Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.

Both phones feature 4nm chipsets. The Galaxy S23 Ultra has 12GB LPPDR5 RAM and UFS 4.0 storage, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max has 6GB LPDDR5 RAM and NVMe storage. However, the Galaxy S23 Ultra has to push more pixels as it has a QHD+ resolution (3,088 x 1,440 pixels) compared to the iPhone’s Full HD+ resolution (2,796 x 1,290 pixels).

However, Samsung may fall behind next year as Apple is expected to bring its 3nm chipset built by TSMC, while Qualcomm may stick with TSMC’s 4nm technology.
