Galaxy S23 Expert RAW update improves image quality, fixes Lightroom bug

Samsung is rolling out a new update to Expert RAW as we speak. The latest April 2023 firmware update is required for this new Expert RAW version to work.

The update brings further improvements to the Galaxy S23 camera experience. The changelog says the update is meant for the latest (April) firmware and mentions two big changes, as follows:

  • Image quality improvement
  • Fixed the loading error of astrophoto to Lightroom with high Efficiency RAW

There’s no mention of the recent HDR-related issues but they should be fixed with an update to the regular Camera app sooner rather than later. However, don’t expect Samsung to be able to do something about the blur issue many Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra owners have reported, as that issue seems to be a hardware one that affects not just the Galaxy S23 series but last year’s Galaxy S22 lineup as well.

The new Expert RAW version requires April firmware update

The latest Expert RAW update is now available for download from the Galaxy Store (as noted above, your Galaxy S23 will have to be on the latest firmware for the new Expert RAW version to work). You can also update to the new version from within the app’s Settings menu – just scroll down to and tap About Expert RAW in the settings menu, then hit the Update button that shows up.
