Galaxy S22 sales figures in South Korea to cross 1 million soon despite GOS debacle

The GOS debacle has somewhat scarred Samsung’s reputation in the market, with all of its current-generation devices delisted from Geekbench. Initial reports suggested that it was directly responsible for reduced Galaxy S22 sales in South Korea. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case, if a new report from Korea Herald is to be believed.

A Samsung spokesperson has confirmed that the Galaxy S22 sales figures will cross a million figures in South Korea soon, a number that shouldn’t be scoffed at. Then again, initial Galaxy S22 sales were one of the highest ever, beating the massively popular Galaxy S8 after several years. Long-term demand could be 10% lower than last year, though.

It is also worth noting that a good chunk of the sales are of the top-of-the-line Galaxy S22 Ultra (60%), with the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ accounting for the rest. It is probably due to attractive discounts/promotions offered by local network carriers, as it greatly softens the blow of the Galaxy S22 series’ sky-high price tag.

Samsung’s software fix for GOS and the ensuing apology seems to have done the trick, as the demand for the Galaxy S22 series outside of South Korea is on the rise, too. It’ll be interesting to see if the enthusiasm carries forward to next year, especially after the long string of controversies that have plagued Samsung.
