Galaxy S20 Ultra’s telephoto camera is not supported in the Expert RAW app

Last year, Samsung released the Expert RAW camera app for the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The company had promised that it would also bring support for the app on older Galaxy flagships. Last week, the updated app was finally released for the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

We installed the Expert RAW camera app on the Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and we discovered that the app doesn’t support the telephoto camera on the Galaxy S20 Ultra. On the other hand, the app supports the telephoto camera on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

We are not sure why there’s no parity between the two phones despite them featuring the same processor and ISP. Maybe it is due to a higher resolution (48MP) telephoto camera sensor on the Galaxy S20 Ultra. However, if the app can process data from the phone’s 108MP primary camera, it can surely work with a 48MP sensor.

Hopefully, Samsung will update the app to work with the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s telephoto camera in the future. The Expert RAW app lets you adjust ISO, shutter speed, EV, focus, white balance, and metering. It features multi-frame noise reduction and better dynamic range. You can even edit those images in the Adobe Lightroom app.
