Galaxy S20 series is now getting Google Duo’s auto-framing feature
Google had announced the auto-framing feature for Google Duo last year, and it was included in the first feature drop update for Pixel smartphones. It was exclusive to the Pixel 4 series, but the feature now seems to be rolling out to select Galaxy smartphones from Samsung.
The Galaxy S20 series is now receiving Google Duo’s auto-framing feature. During video calls, the new feature keeps the user in focus by zooming towards their face when they step away from the phone (as long as they stay within the camera’s field-of-view). The camera also smoothly pans towards the user when they move around.
The auto-framing feature seems to be limited to the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra. The folks over at Android Police tested it on the Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Z Fold 2, and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, but the feature is not supported on those smartphones. Hopefully, more Samsung devices will get the feature soon.
When the feature is activated, the video calling app automatically switches to the wide-angle mode. It doesn’t work when switched to the rear-facing camera, though. Google Duo’s auto-framing feature is supposed to be exclusive to Pixel devices, so we don’t know if the rollout to Galaxy devices is intentional.
