Galaxy Note 9 will no longer get software updates, Galaxy Note 10 will get them once a quarter

Samsung is finally putting the Galaxy Note 9 to rest. The smartphone will no longer get software updates. The South Korean firm released the September 2022 security patch and its details yesterday. On its website, it lists devices that it is actively supporting. While it added newer devices like the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 to the list, it also removed the Galaxy Note 9.

This means that Samsung won’t even release security updates to the Galaxy Note 9. The smartphone was launched four years ago, in August 2018, running Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. It received the Android 9 update in 2019 and the Android 10-based One UI 2.5 update in 2020. Later, the phone continued to get security updates once a quarter.

The South Korean firm also demoted the Galaxy Note 10 series to quarterly updates. The Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy Note 10+ used to get monthly security updates. However, moving forward, Samsung will release security updates to these phones once every quarter. These phones were released in August 2019 with Android 9 onboard.

The Galaxy Note 10 series received the Android 10 update in early 2020, the Android 11-based One UI 3 update in early 2021, and the Android 12-based One UI 4 update earlier this year. It will not get the Android 13 update, though.
