Galaxy M54 OLED panel might not be supplied by Samsung Display

The Galaxy A54 had one of its biggest unofficial reveals earlier today when a series of fan-made renders supposedly shed some light on the phone’s overall design. The Galaxy A54’s more budget-oriented counterpart, i.e., the Galaxy M54, hasn’t been as much in the spotlight, but some details are now beginning to emerge. And according to a recent rumor, the Galaxy M54 will have an OLED display.

Furthermore, the Galaxy M54’s OLED panel might not be supplied entirely by Samsung Display but by two Samsung Electronics supply chain partners, namely CSOT and BOE. (via The Elec)

Samsung is trying to keep Galaxy M54 costs down

Samsung used OLED panels for the existing Galaxy M53 from Samsung Display and BOE. Next year, however, it’s unclear if Samsung Display will remain an OLED supplier for the Galaxy M54 or if Samsung Electronics will acquire the displays exclusively from COST and BOE.

Either way, the reason for signing up COST and BOE to its supply chain should be fairly obvious. Samsung is trying to keep production costs for the budget-oriented mid-range Galaxy M54 down.

On the other hand, the Galaxy M54 might offer at least one higher-grade spec, with another recent report suggesting that the device could feature the Snapdragon 888 SoC — the same chipset that powered the Galaxy S21 flagship lineup in select markets. It would certainly be an attractive feature for mid-range phone customers looking for more power.

The Galaxy M53 was released in April, which could mean that the sequel will hit the market around the same time next year.
