Galaxy M40 starts getting the Android 11 update

Samsung is having an impressive run when it comes to software updates for Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The company has already released the Android 11 update to most of its high-end and mid-range Galaxy devices. The South Korean firm has now released the Android 11 update to the Galaxy M40.

The Galaxy M40 has started receiving the Android 11-based One UI 3.1 update in India. Since it is the standard Android 11 changelog from Samsung, we are unsure if this is a One UI 3.0 or One UI 3.1 update. We will try to update the article once we get more information on this matter. The update bumps up the firmware version of the Galaxy M40 to M405FDDU2CUC6 and includes the March 2021 security patch. Nevertheless, this update should bring standard Android 11 features like one-time permissions, auto permissions reset, chat bubbles, a media player widget in the quick settings toggle area, a conversations section, and easier access to smart home controls.

It should also include various One UI 3 related features, including a redesigned UI, refreshed icons, more Dynamic Lockscreen options and lockscreen widgets, improved stock apps, a newer version of Samsung Keyboard and Samsung Internet, and improved Digital Wellbeing and parental controls. If you are a Galaxy M40 user in India, you can check for the update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install.

We expect Samsung to roll out the Android 11 update to the Galaxy M40 in more markets in the coming weeks. The Galaxy M40 was launched in mid-2019 with Android 9.0 (One UI), and since then, the phone has released two major Android OS updates. The smartphone is currently on a quarterly security update schedule.
