Galaxy A54 5G vs Galaxy A51: A necessary upgrade

Earlier today, Samsung unveiled its most premium mid-range smartphone for 2023, the Galaxy A54 5G. It brings some upgrades over the Galaxy A53 5G, but they’re not huge. Instead, it is a fantastic upgrade for those still rocking older phones like the Galaxy A51 and the Galaxy A52.

The Galaxy A51 and the Galaxy A54 5G have similar-sized OLED screens with Full HD+ resolution, but the one on the Galaxy A54 5G is brighter (1,000 nits) and has a 120Hz refresh rate means better visibility and a smoother UI. The new phone also has stereo speakers for a better multimedia experience. It misses out on the 3.5mm headphone jack, though.

The Galaxy A51 has four rear cameras, while the Galaxy A54 5G has three. The newer phone’s primary camera uses an upgraded 50MP sensor with optical image stabilization, while the 12MP ultrawide and 5MP macro cameras remain the same as the Galaxy A51. The 5nm Exynos 1380 processor inside the Galaxy A54 5G is much more powerful than the Galaxy A51’s 10nm Exynos 9611 chip. It makes the Galaxy A54 5G faster in day-to-day usage and gaming. It also features 5G, which is lacking on the Galaxy A51. The Galaxy A54 5G runs Android 13 and will get four major Android OS updates (up to Android 17), while the Galaxy A51 is stuck at Android 13.

The Galaxy A54 5G also lasts much longer than the Galaxy A51 due to its 20% bigger battery (5,000mAh) and a more power-efficient chip.
