Galaxy A21s gets a new firmware update, even though it will never get Android 13
The Galaxy A21s, a smartphone that will never receive Android 13 or later OS upgrades, is now getting the latest security patch from Samsung. The May 2023 update has rolled out to dozens of Galaxy devices so far, but as far as the Galaxy S21s goes, the update’s reach is yet limited.
In other words, as of this writing, the May 2023 update appears to be rolling out only in Argentina. The update carries firmware version A217MUBUADWE2, which suggests that Galaxy A21s users could benefit from more features or other improvements, not just a newer security patch. However, Samsung has yet to add a new changelog to its update tracker, so as of now, the update is a tiny bit mysterious.
As far as better security is concerned, the May 2023 patch fixes flaws in the bootloader and addresses vulnerabilities in Exynos modems. In total, the May 2023 update addresses 72 security flaws spread across Android OS and Samsung’s own software. Six of these vulnerabilities are critical, while 56 are of high importance. However, they don’t all affect every Galaxy device out there, which means the Galaxy A21s doesn’t necessarily suffer from 72 security flaws or more.
The Galaxy A21s update should reach other markets outside of Argentina soon. As usual, customers who prefer manual updates over a PC can download the official firmware files from our website as soon as they’re available. Otherwise, Galaxy A21s users should be able to install the May 2023 update by opening the Settings app on their phones, accessing “Software update,” and tapping “Download and install.”
