FlexiSpot BS9 office chair review: Simple but comfortable

FlexiSpot is making a name for itself as one of the go-to places for some of the best office equipment on the market. I’ve reviewed a number of their electronic standing desks over the last year, and I’ve come away impressed with every single one. So, when FlexiSpot offered their BS9 office chair to review, I was excited to see how well it would hold up.

I’ve been using the BS9 for the last month, and I think it’s a good office chair that will meet most people’s basic needs. For the price, I think it’s definitely worth a shot. Plus, FlexiSpot currently has a massive sale going on meaning you can get this chair (and much of their other products) for much less.

So, let’s get right into the review.

Bottom line: A good office chair that meets basic needs, but you might want to look at FlexiSpot’s other offerings if you want more features.

  • No real lumbar support
  • Quite basic

The FlexiSpot BS9 can be had for just £160 on Amazon UK, as FlexiSpot is offering the chair in a big sale. At this price, I think this chair is an excellent buy. Normally, you can find the chair for £300. It’s available from FlexiSpot UK’s own website or on Amazon.

FlexiSpot BS9: What you’ll like

To begin, the BS9 absolutely nails the fundamentals of a good office chair: comfortable and easy to use. I had absolutely no problem unboxing and setting up this chair. It took about 10 minutes from unboxing to having the chair fully assembles and at my desk.

A contemporary design with high-quality visuals.

Its design is contemporary, featuring high-quality materials with a mesh backing and 7cm spongy bottom. We had a relatively hot few weeks here in the UK, and the mesh material on the back meant I didn’t once feel sweaty or sticky. It’s a breathable material, which feels really light and comfortable.

The bottom cushion is perfectly fine. My longest running time sitting in the chair for any one time was about three hours, and I didn’t come away feeling sore. The chair itself is height adjustable between 44.5cm and 53.5cm, which should be fine for most people. The back is also adjustable between 90 degrees and 120 degrees.

FlexiSpot BS9: What you won’t like

I think it’s fair to say that the FlexiSpot BS9 is an office chair designed to meet your basic needs. It certainly doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that an office chair can have. Because of this, it might not be for everyone. If you live and breathe an office lifestyle, perhaps investing in a more well-rounded office chair is a good idea.

There’s no headrest or true lumbar support.

For example, the BS9 doesn’t feature any real lumbar support. FlexiSpot does advertise lumbar support on this chair, but that’s only because the shape of the mesh tries to mimic one. Unfortunately, the mesh is too soft to offer any real support on the lower back, and it also can’t be raised or lowered, so I’d have a hard time recommending this chair if you need lumbar.

The arms on the side also aren’t adjustable, meaning if you’re too tall or too short, you won’t be able to dial-in your most comfortable armrest positions. There’s also no headrest, which some might find annoying. Finally, the bright orange color may not be to everyone’s taste. I personally don’t mind it, though it wouldn’t be my first choice. I’d love to see FlexiSpot offer this chair in more than one color.

FlexiSpot BS9: Competition

FlexiSpot’s other chairs include the BS8, which appears to be a more advanced office chair with things like dedicated lumbar support, a headrest, and adjustable arms. It’s £300 from FlexiSpot’s own website. You can get chairs with the same features as the FlexiSpot BS9 from Amazon for anywhere between £70 and £150, however many of these chairs are off-brand with low-quality materials.

FlexiSpot BS9: Should you buy it?

You should buy this if …

  • You’re looking for a simple yet comfortable office chair
  • You don’t need advanced features
  • You like orange

You shouldn’t buy this if…

  • You need proper lumbar support or adjustable arms.
  • You want a headrest.
  • You’re on a budget

If you’re in the market for a simple yet comfortable office chair that you’re only in need of a few hours a day, this chair is a great choice. If you’re spending the entire work day at a desk, and need features such as better back support or a headrest, then this is not the chair for you.

I like the FlexiSpot BS9, however I think this is definitely a more basic office chair that’s missing features that many would consider to be a necessity if you work long hours. I would love to see better lumbar support and adjustable arms.

Bottom line: The FlexiSpot BS9 is a great basic office chair with a comfortably ergonomic design with mesh backing. However, it’s not rocking all the features you might need from your chair.
