First iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 public beta builds are now live with more AI

Apple is rumored to be launching the finalized versions of iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 in early December. Ahead of that, today the company has released the first public beta builds for both of them. You can now enroll your iPhone or iPad into the Apple Beta Program to get the 18.2 beta update if you so wish, but do keep in mind that bugs are inevitable with such releases.

iOS 18.2 brings with it more Apple Intelligence features, including Image Playground, a dedicated app for generating images from text prompts. This is also integrated into Messages, Notes, and Freeform.

You also get Genmoji – “gen” for “generative AI” and “moji” for, well, you know. These can also be created based on text prompts, and can be based on images of you, your friends, family, and so on.

Siri has received ChatGPT integration. If Siri itself can’t provide an answer to your query, it will ask for your permission to hand over the request to ChatGPT. You don’t need a ChatGPT account for this.

For the iPhone 16 family, there’s also Visual Intelligence, which gives you information about what’s around you – you just need to open the camera and point it at something. Visual Intelligence additionally reads text out loud, detects phone numbers and addresses to add to Contacts, copies text, and summarizes text.

Apple Intelligence now supports localized English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, and the UK. Do note that there’s a waiting list for access to Genmoji, Image Playground, and Image Wand (which transforms a sketch into an image).
