First case for the Pixel 6 surface, has complex design that wraps around the odd camera bump

We’ve seen the unorthodox (perhaps Nexus 6P-inspired) design of the upcoming Google Pixel 6 several times in renders and it was clear all along that it would require an equally unorthodox design for protective cases. Leakster Ice Universe posted images of a transparent plastic case for the phone that offers the first real look at what case makers will have to deal with.

The camera bump is rectangular with two sloping sides and the case wraps around that to protect it from scratches. According to rumors, the phone will measure 8.9mm thick, with the bump pushing that up to 11.8mm.

There’s a hole on top of the case and it would be tempting to think that it is a 3.5 mm headphone jack, but it is most likely just a hole for the top microphone – none of the renders we’ve seen so far showed a headphone jack.

The Pixel 6 is supposed to have stereo speakers and you can see two openings for speaker grilles at the bottom. However, the second channel will likely play through the earpiece, as is the norm for smartphones these days.

We’ve heard much about the alleged specs of the upcoming Google flagship, here’s a quick summary. It will be powered by a custom 5 nm chip (“Whitechapel”) with Snapdragon 870-like performance, but with more powerful NPU and ISP to handle the image processing. The images will come from a 50 MP main camera, 8 MP telephoto (5x magnification) and an ultra wide module.

These are the rumored specs for the Pixel 6 Pro at least, there should be a vanilla model with just two cameras. Also, they will have different screen sizes too – 6.67” for the Pro and 6.4” for the vanilla model. The new Pixel duo is expected in October or November, depending on how the chip shortage progresses.
