First camera sample from Samsung’s 200MP sensor emerges

Samsung unveiled its first 200MP camera sensor—ISOCELL HP1—last year. The first smartphone to use that sensor is the Motorola Edge X30 Pro, which will soon be launched in China. Now, the first camera sample from that upcoming phone has been revealed, offering us a look at the picture quality.

Chen Jin, Manager of Motorola China, posted the first camera sample from the upcoming Motorola flagship smartphone. The sample is a 50MP image from the ISOCELL HP1 camera sensor. This sensor can capture full-resolution 200MP shots, 50MP shots in 4-in-1 pixel binning mode, and 12.5MP photos in 16-in-1 pixel binning mode.

Since the image was shared on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, its quality may have been reduced due to image compression. So, you can’t draw any accurate conclusions from this single image. The Motorola Edge X30 Pro also features a 50MP ISOCELL JN1 ultrawide camera and a 14.6MP telephoto camera with either 2x or 3x optical zoom.

This smartphone will make it outside China with the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra branding. It has a 144Hz OLED display, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, 4,500mAh battery, and 125W fast charging. It will compete with the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which has a 108MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and two 10MP telephoto cameras.
