Fall Guys is coming to Xbox next month, and it’s going free-to-play

Fall Guys is a popular online party game that initially debuted as a PlayStation and PC exclusive. The title, hailing from developer Mediatonic and publisher Devolver Digital, was announced as heading as Xbox over a year ago, but Xbox players have been left waiting for the eventual port. On Monday, a stream with the Fall Guys teams reveals that Fall Guys’ largest update yet is on the way, the game is going completely free-to-play (with an optional premium Season Pass), and the game is finally heading to Xbox and Switch platforms.

The Fall Guys port to Xbox was indefinitely delayed last year, as the COVID-19 pandemic forced video game development to change and adapt drastically. After months of silence on the subject, we finally know when Fall Guys is coming to Xbox and Switch platforms, and it won’t arrive in the same state as before. A major update is adding a ton of content, including a map editor, to Fall Guys. The game is also transitioning to a free-to-play strategy, opening up the game to more players by lowering the cost of entry.

Fall Guys will be free to download and play on every platform, including PlayStation and PC, and its “seasons” are changing to accompany the major shift in strategy. Interested players can purchase premium Season Passes for each season, which are greatly expanded versions of the previous passes offered by the game, with up to 100 tiers of rewards available for players to earn.

For many, however, the biggest announcement for today is that Fall Guys is finally attempting to join the list of best online Xbox games. The multiplayer hit is launching on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, alongside the launch of the major new update and the transition to free-to-play. Cross-play will be enabled, allowing players on every platform (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC) to play with each other without barriers.

Mediatonic detailed how Fall Guys will run on Xbox consoles, with the game hitting 60FPS on the Xbox One X, Series S, and Series X. The Series S will run the game at 1440p, while the more beefy Series X will up the pixel count to a crispy 4K. Players on the original Xbox One and One S will still be able to participate in the Fall Guys fun, but they’ll be limited to 1080p at 30FPS.

June 21, 2022 will be a big day for Fall Guys, with the game becoming free-to-play, releasing on Xbox and Switch, dropping a significant content update, and beginning a new season (with a premium Season Pass) all at the same time.
