Exynos 2200 added to Netflix’s list of compatible chipsets

Netflix’s long-standing relationship with Widevine DRM makes it so that only a few “certified” smartphones can stream content on the platform at high definition (720p and above). Most high-end chipsets play nice with Widevine L3 and the Exynos 2200 is no different.

Exynos 2200 powered smartphones will be able to stream Netflix in HD

Android Police stumbled upon a little footnote on Netflix’s website about compatible chipsets. The list includes bigwigs like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8xx series, several MediaTek SoCs and even a few HiSilicon and UNISOC chipsets. All of Samsung’s offerings are there, too, including the controversial Exynos 990, the slightly-less-controversial Exynos 2100 and the Exynos 2200.

There are no prizes for guessing which Samsung smartphone will use the Exynos 2200, although there seem to be fewer of them this time around. Interestingly enough, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is absent from the list, and that chipset has been out and about for a while. Then again, most of them are yet to make their way outside of China, where Netflix is unavailable.

The Exynos 2200-powered Galaxy S22 smartphones will almost certainly be able to play HDR content on Netflix. After all, they’re poised to feature one of the best AMOLED screens one can find on a smartphone. The Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra’s screens’ luminescence can go as high as 1,750 nits.
