Introduction

In keeping with tradition, Samsung will release a new version of One UI alongside the next major Android OS upgrade for mobile devices. It will be called One UI 5.0.

Throughout 2022, Samsung will continue to update existing phones to One UI 4.1, after which the company will debut One UI 4.1.1 alongside its Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 foldable phones. One UI 5.0 will come after that.

One UI 5.0 features

Although it’s too early to be certain of One UI 5.0 features, this upcoming version will be based on Android 13. The latter OS version is in preview mode for select — non-Samsung — devices, and it could offer a sneak peek at some of the features One UI 5.0 will boast.

Android 13 brings more UI changes and relocates some UI elements such as the settings and power shortcuts within the Quick Settings menu. Google may also expand upon the Material You personalization options.

There’s no telling exactly what One UI 5.0 will borrow from Android 13, but Google’s firmware is already showing signs of borrowing from previous versions of One UI. Preview Android 13 builds, for example, have introduced a new setting for flashlight brightness.

One UI 5.0 release

Update: SamMobile has exclusively confirmed today that the One UI 5.0 beta program will be launched in the third week of July. The public release is going to take place in October.

The release of One UI 5.0 depends on Android 13. In other words, the moment Samsung is ready to bring Android 13 to the masses, that’s when we’ll get to see One UI 5.0.

The Galaxy S22 series will most likely be the first to adopt the early versions of One UI 5.0 during the initial testing phase, which could take place as early as July. Many other devices are also eligible for Android 13 and One UI 5.0, a full list of which can be found here.
