Epic Games to publish games from Control and The Last Guardian developers
Epic Games is the team behind the popular free-to-play Fornite and has had a lot of success with it over the years. The company is expanding its publishing business and today, announced new projects with the developers of The Last Guardian, Control, and Inside. More information about these projects should be revealed soon.
Today, Epic Games is announcing a new multiplatform publishing effort with a developer-first approach. gen DESIGN (The Last Guardian), Playdead (Inside, Limbo), and Remedy Entertainment (Control) are the first partners to announce relationships with Epic Games Publishing. The Epic Games approach to publishing fundamentally changes the developer-publisher model, and aims to have the most developer-friendly terms in the industry, so that creators can focus on making great games… Developers retain 100 percent of all intellectual property and full creative control of their work… Epic Games Publishing will cover up to 100 percent of development costs, from developer salaries to go-to-market expenses… Developers earn a fair share for their work… developers earn at least 50 percent of all profits.
gen DESIGN, Remedy, and Playdead are among the most innovative and talented studios in the industry, with strong visions for their next games. They will have full creative control, while Epic will provide a solid foundation of project funding and services.
While many see the Epic Games Store as not as advanced at Steam, these new initiatives are game-changers for the industry. Usually, publishers keep the rights to games. Hopefully, this is going to change going forward because a major company like Epic Games isn’t going to do so.
