EA is looking to launch a remake and ‘major IP’ in the coming fiscal year

Electronic Arts (EA) shared its results for Q4 fiscal year 2022, reporting strong live services growth for the quarter ended in March 31, 2022.

EA noted in its financial results that it has a whole slate of games coming in fiscal year 2023, including several sports games. For fiscal Q4 2023, which runs from January through March 2023, EA plans to launch a “major IP,” a partner title, and a remake.

Notably, a Dead Space remake is currently in development at Motive Studios, with a slated release window of sometime in early 2023. Motive Studios has been holding livestreams to show various slices of the remake’s development, with the next look scheduled for May 12, 2022.

As for the major IP, while this is a little broader and more open to interpretation, it’s possible that this is the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. EA previously confirmed that a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is currently in development at Respawn Entertainment, alongside two other Star Wars games.

Role-playing game developer BioWare is also working on major titles, with Dragon Age 4 and a new Mass Effect both in development. There’s no release date for either title right now.

For sports titles, EA has confirmed that the next FIFA game will be the last to use the FIFA branding. Looking ahead, the company is shifting to the EA Sports FC branding.

Over the past year, EA noted that live services accounted for 71% of net bookings in fiscal year 2022. EA recorded $7.515 billion in new bookings for the fiscal year. Battle royale title Apex Legends plays a part in these live service titles, with EA previously confirming that Apex Legends Mobile is slated to launch in May 2022.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson noted he has “full confidence” in the ability of the teams at EA to launch games across the coming year, in spite of continued challenges induced by working through the pandemic. In the prior quarter, EA noted that Battlefield 2042 did not meet expectations.
