Don’t be surprised to see TikTok-like design when you open Spotify on your Galaxy phone

Spotify, at its ‘Stream On’ event, announced the biggest evolution of its app on smartphones. All the new features announced will be pushed to Android and iOS devices. One of the biggest overhauls that you will instantly notice is that the home feed now strikingly resembles the popular short-form video app TikTok.

The Spotify update shows the new TikTok-inspired home feed, which includes video and audio previews for music, podcasts, and audiobooks. The company calls this new makeover “a new, dynamic mobile interface built for deeper discovery and more meaningful connections between artists and fans” and that it’s “our biggest evolution yet.”

The new features are set to arrive on Android in the coming months

As noted by Spotify during the event, the company believes that the new generation of listeners wants to sample the audio before completely committing to it. And so, to provide an active experience, Spotify provides a sample of the audio in TikTok-inspired short-video style in the Home feed. All you need to do is tap on the Music, Podcasts & Shows, or Audiobooks feed to explore visual and audio previews of playlists in respective categories.

You can tap to save or share or even dive into the artist or podcast page to know more about the content. Spotify is also revamping the discovery feature in Search. Spotify users can scroll down and check out the Canvas clips from tracks of some of their favorite artists or genres. Everything, right from sharing with friends, saving the song to the playlist, and following the artist, can be done from one place.

Related genres can easily be discovered by following the hashtags within the feed of the discovery of new content. Users will also be able to review some of their favorite playlists, like Discover Weekly, Release Radar, New Music Friday, and RapCaviar.

As of now, there is no hard date mentioned by Spotify on when they plan to roll out the major UI overhaul to its users. It did say that the feature is “beginning to roll out to Premium and Free users globally across iOS and Android.” But the rollout will begin in the coming weeks and months.
