Best answer: No, unfortunately, the Surface Book 3 doesn’t have a microSD card slot. However, it does come with a normal SD card slot, and you can use microSD if you get an adapter.

The Surface Book 3 and SD storage

As previously mentioned, the Surface Book 3 does not come with a microSD card slot. However, it does come with a regular SD one. This leaves you with two options. The first is to use an SD to microSD adapter to use a microSD card with your Surface Book 3 (or any other device with an SD card slot). We have a guide on how to do that here.

Your second option is to simply opt for an SD card. This is easier to do since you don’t need an adapter, but a regular SD card will stick out of the laptop and could catch on things. Ultimately, it’s a matter of deciding if you want to pay a little extra for a microSD adapter to get around the size issue of SD cards, or if you would rather save a little money and deal with the fact that an SD card will stick out.

If you decide you want to use an SD card, we highly recommend the SanDisk Extreme Pro. It has excellent read and write speeds and can be configured to have a capacity anywhere between 32GB and 1TB, so it’s a very versatile card that will suit your specific needs no matter what.

The Surface Book 3 is one of the most potent convertible laptops Microsoft has made, sporting up to an Intel 10th Gen i7-1065G7 processor, up to an NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti GPU, and up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM. These specs enable the Surface Book 3 to tackle any work task you can throw at it quickly, and it will also play modern games competently as well, which isn’t something you can often say about hybrid devices. It can be outfitted with up to 1TB in storage space, too, which is excellent. On top of this, the 10th Gen Intel CPU allows the laptop to support Wi-Fi 6, which is the latest Wi-Fi standard on the market.

In terms of the display, the Surface Book 3’s is gorgeous. You can get either a 13.5-inch one that has a 3000 x 2000 resolution, or a 15-inch one with a 3240 x 2160 resolution. Both displays are fully touch-enabled. Just like with the previous Surface Book devices, you can also fully detach the keyboard from the display and use the device as a dedicated tablet. The cherry on top is the strong selection of ports; the Surface Book 3 comes with dual USB-A 3.1 Gen 2 ports, dual Surface Connect ports, and a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port for maximum peripheral connectivity. Overall, the Surface Book 3 is an excellent hybrid device that can do it all, and do it well.
