Diablo IV artwork is being recreated by 3D artists, and it’s amazing

When Diablo IV was announced at Blizzcon this year, we got our first look at Lilith, the big bad of the game and, frankly, a masterpiece of computer design. Lilith has massive ram horns, leathery wings, and a stern, yet striking face.

Of course, as soon as something as amazing as Lilith appears, the 3D printing community jumps into action to create physical forms of these digital masterpieces.

It’s incredible how quickly these artists can create these stunning works in programs like Blender — a free 3d creation tool — or Zbrush. I, too, have tried to create 3d models for print, and frankly, I suck, but artists like Jukka — who has been featured in my 3D printing articles before — can make models in hours ready for enthusiasts to print.

The detail on the models is incredible too. In the model that Dario is making below, you can see the tears in Lilith’s clothes and wings, and the look on her face is captured in detail as well.

With models like this, you will want to own a resin printer. There are people out there who could potentially print a model with this much detail on a standard FDM printer, but really, you want resin. Resin printers are tailor-made to produce the detail you need to do Lilith justice.

A resin printer will also require fewer supports than a standard printer and should make printing the models much more manageable. There is far less clean up when it comes to resin printing, too, so you can get to painting the model much more quickly.

If you are new to 3D printing and this beautiful model inspires you to try it out, I would recommend getting an Elegoo Mars to start you off. The build size is not huge so that you won’t be making 18″ tall figures, but you can pick one up for around $270 and with a few extra accessories you can start printing beautiful models in short order.

If you want to make bigger models, perhaps even cosplay parts from your favorite games, the Phrozen Shuffle XL may be right for you. It’s big, really big, and can easily print intricate models at a much larger scale than the Mars.

The 3D printing community is growing fast now that printers are becoming more accessible. Designers like the two mentioned here are real fans, willing to spend hours of their time in making beautiful things just for the hell of it. I love that I’m a part of this community, and you can be too. Come and join us.

Ubeatable on the value-quality scale.

The Elegoo Mars is a fantastic first 3D printer for anyone looking to get into resin printing. You can search, but you won’t find anything that beats the value to quality ratio of this printer.
