Destiny 2 hotfix bug causes players to lose in-game currency (update)
Updated January 28, 2020: Destiny 2 is back online and all accounts have been rolled back to before the hotfix disrupted currency.
Destiny 2 Update 2.7.1, a hotfix for the game that was intended to solve a few minor issues, ended up shipping with a bug that caused players to lose various amounts of in-game currency. Glimmer, Bright Dust, and Silver were all at risk of being deleted, as well as Upgrade Modules, all planetary materials, and even the hard-to-earn Enhancement Cores, Ascendant Prisms, and Ascendant Shards that are necessary for masterworking weapons and armor.

After taking Destiny 2 offline for emergency maintenance, Bungie developed a fix for the issue and is currently working on rolling it out across the servers. Until then, the game will remain unavailable to players, though Bungie has stated that the game is expected to go back online at 7 PM PT/10 PM ET. When that happens, player accounts will be rolled back to how they were before the update came out, effectively restoring everyone’s lost items. Hopefully this solution to the issue ends up working.
Destiny 2 is available for free on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The latest expansion, Shadowkeep, is available for $35.
