Deals: the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is here, the small Pixel 9 Pro is a week out

We welcomed the vanilla Google Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro XL flagship at the end of August, now attention shifts towards the small Pro and Google’s next-generation foldable.

The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold shifts to a more traditional 20:9 aspect ratio for the cover display, compared to 17.4:9 for the original Pixel Fold. Also, the inner display grows significantly with the new 8” diagonal. There’s also the more efficient Tensor G4 chipset, but that pretty much covers the major upgrades this year.

The Google Pixel 9 Pro isn’t here just yet, it will launch on September 16 (Monday). While not the smallest flagship around (both the Galaxy S24 and iPhone 15 Pro are smaller), it stands out with the 48MP 113mm periscope and 48MP ultra wide cameras, as well as the 42MP ultra wide selfie camera.

Note that the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro Fold come with a free storage upgrade. Also, Amazon offers extra credit as bonus when trading in an old device.

This applies to the Google Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL too, both get a free storage upgrade and trade-in bonus.

The Google Pixel Watch 3 will start shipping on Tuesday. This generation comes in 41mm size as the first two, but now you can opt for a larger 45mm model too – in addition to increasing the screen size from 1.2” to 1.4”, you also get a larger 420mAh battery (up from 307mAh).

Samsung introduced a new category of watch this year, the Galaxy Watch Ultra. It is water resistant up to 100m and has an on-board ECG sensor. The 1.5” display can boost to 3,000 nits and the 590mAh battery offers great endurance.

There’s no Classic model this year, but there is the Galaxy Watch7. It comes in 40mm and 44mm (1.3” and 1.5” displays, respectively) and also has an ECG sensor. Both this and the Ultra can also monitor your blood pressure and skin temperature. While not as rugged, it is still rated for 50m water resistance, which should be enough for most.

If you want something cheap, the Galaxy Watch FE has many of the same features – rated for 50m, ECG and blood pressure, it even has a sapphire glass. Note that Prime Student members can get an additional discount on the watches.

Finally, the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 deserve a mention – the new Tensor A1 chipset promises double the noise cancellation of the original Pros. However, these won’t launch until later this month, so we’ll have to revisit them.
