Cyberpunk 2077 to look better on Xbox Series X launch, full update in 2021
Hotly-anticipated role-playing endeavor, Cyberpunk 2077, recently suffered yet another delay to November 19. The second setback of the year for CD Projekt Red’s dystopian setting may disappoint players but comes with the promise of additional polish and optimization. That puts Cyberpunk 2077 on track for a similar release window as upcoming next-generation consoles.
Cyberpunk 2077 bridges the gap between the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, with plans to extend into the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. While initially developed with current consoles in mind, CD Projekt Red has outlined plans to deliver a next-gen graphical update after release. That upgrade will be distributed for free on both consoles, with the Xbox Series X version hooking into Microsoft’s automated Smart Delivery system.
CD Projekt Red has provided additional context around next-generation plans, speaking on a conference call with investors on Thursday. The studio confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 would be playable on Xbox Series X and PS5 at launch, with graphical enhancements planned for day one. However, Cyberpunk 2077 will receive a later, “more robust” next-gen update, assumedly the full-fledged vision, currently scheduled for 2021.
The next drop of Cyberpunk 2077 details is scheduled for June 25, via a digital “Night City Wire” event. In the meantime, Cyberpunk 2077 remains available for preorder on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with free next-generation updates to come.
