It’s no secret that Cyberpunk 2077 is a game about sex. Sure, it attempts to tackle other ideas as well, but it revels in its sexuality. The world of Night City is filled with sex shops, different kinds of sex workers, and different ways to get off. It’s also filled with dildos. Maybe… too many dildos?
Many people — including some of us who played the game pre-launch or immediately after — noted the sheer amount of dildos that appeared to spawn around the map. This is a world where people’s standards for what can be considered taboo are much lower, according to senior quest designer Philipp Weber in a Kotaku interview, but that doesn’t explain why there are just so many in the trash. Dildos can be expensive, you don’t just throw those out, especially if you get something like the Pilomancer 3000, which in-game looks to be at least two feet long.
However, many (including me) noticed that the number spawning just on the side of the street has decreased since launch. Weber said that a recent hotfix “may” have adjusted that number. He also confirmed to Kotaku that the team will continue to adjust the rate at which they spawn, admitting that the original number might have been too high. Since they can spawn as random loot, they can appear anywhere random loot might show up.
“They can spawn as random loot, and we were still tweaking those settings, so especially during the early reviews, the amount of dildos in the game world was pretty high,” he said. “We’re going to adjust them so that the dildos don’t appear too out of place/context and distracting and more where they should be by design.”
However, there’s plenty of sexual imagery to go around, whether you want to visit one of the numerous sex shops or swing around Sir John Phallustiff, a one-handed melee weapon that looks just a bit suggestive.
Enter Night City
An open world in more ways than one
Cyberpunk 2077 is the latest project from CD Projekt Red, the developers behind the Witcher 3. It has some performance issues on consoles, but it’s ambitious, visually impressive, and might just be what you’re looking for.
